The league is headed by a Commissioner, Domenic Di Gironimo, with offices at Concord, Ontario on the northern outskirts of Toronto.
The CSL operates three divisions – a National Conference of teams at St. Catharines, London, Brampton, North York, Toronto and the Province of Quebec, and an International Division of teams in the Toronto area which represent their country of origin. The CSL also has a Reserve Division.
Teams in the National and International Divisions of the CSL have a regular league schedule which runs from mid-May through Late September, followed by the playoffs which lead to the Championship Final late October.
The current CSL champions are Trois-Rivieres Attak of the National Division. They defeated Serbian White Eagles of the International Division in the championship game played at the BMO Field in Toronto on October 24, 2009. The Attak outscored Serbian Eagles 3-2 in penalty kicks following regular play and overtime.Trois-Rivieres Attak is the reserve team of the Montreal Impact of United Soccer Leagues (USL).
Looking back over the decades of the CSL and its forerunner leagues, Soccer historian Colin Jose wrote in his book On – Side, that the National Soccer League was born out of turmoil in the tumultuous years of the 1920s. He describes the league as having stood the test of time when other leagues have come and gone in Canada.
From the first game between Toronto Ulster and Windsor Rovers on June 19, 1926, the NSL was for many years the pre-eminent league in Canada and the United States
Today, under the bright new banner of the CSL, the league has developed a new professional standing and is poised for regional expansion across Canada to be an important member of a growing and rapidly developing soccer structure in North America.
